‘I Am Not A Stocko”

Social media can make you and at the same time it can break you into pieces.

The Mamelodi duo Mapara A Jazz took just one line from a South Africa’s popular movie ‘Tsotsi’ and made a hit song out of it. ‘ John Vuli Gate’ is doing the rounds on social media, news channels and radio stations. Everyone is dancing to it, and with the festive season approaching it is without doubt that it will continue to trend.

However Katlego Mohlahlo “The stocko girl” assisted the duo in making their song famous with the dance challenge. She and her friends were dancing to the song at a filling station while holding a bottle of vodka. The dance moves were sensational and caught everyone’s eye. However the tune has now changed; social media users are on her case. One Twiter user wrote, ” Farm girls don’t do it for me Fam, as you read this they are dancing for that “stocko” song with Black Labels quarts 🤦🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️” . And another one wrote ” Look i’m not heartless nor would i wish death on anybody but had Moana gone back home after the party girl would still be having cornflakes today but being stocko has always ended in tears (Literally)”

Now she came out lashing at her critics saying she must not be called a stocko. She is just an ordinary girl from the village who wants to study medicine.
