K.O Opens Up About His Metro FM Music Awards Snub

South African rapper Ntokozo Mdluli, better known by his stage name K.O., has spoken out about his disappointment after being snubbed at the Metro FM Music Awards. The awards ceremony took place on Saturday, 06 May at Mbombela Stadium.

K.O was nominated for seven awards, including Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Hip Hop Artist, Best Male Artist, Best Music Video, and Best Viral Challenge for his hit single Sete, featuring Young Stunna and Blxckie. The song has amassed over 30 million views on YouTube and over 17 million streams on Spotify, making it one of the most popular songs of the year.

 

 

 

 

However, K.O. did not win any of the awards he was nominated for, losing most of them to his rival AKA, who won four awards posthumously for his album Mass Country. AKA died in a tragic accident in April, leaving behind his daughter Kairo and his fans.

K.O. broke his silence in an interview with Zimoja, while he was in the UK attending shows. He said that he was not bitter about his loss, but rather grateful for being nominated and recognized for his work.

“There are so many cases where you anticipate a win and it doesn’t come or when you don’t and you get it. So, awards are really a seesaw for any artist. It’s up to you to maintain a level of sanity, you just need to focus on the things that matter. The fact that I was nominated seven times is already a blessing on its own,” K.O. told the publication.

He added that he was more concerned about making a living from his music and providing for his family than winning trophies.

“This is a livelihood. I am living comfortably. I am blessed and able to feed my family through music, that’s a big win for me, more than any trophy,” he said.

He also congratulated AKA on his wins and paid tribute to his legacy.

“My dawg Kiernan AKA Forbes Your legacy is eternal Congrats to the megacy,” he tweeted.

K.O.’s fans were not happy with the outcome of the awards and took to social media to express their frustration and confusion. Some accused the organizers of giving AKA sympathy votes, while others defended AKA’s talent and fan base.

“We all loved AKA but what is being done to KO sete is not fair,” one user wrote.

“but deep down we know SETE is the best and biggest collaboration!#MetroFMAwards,” another commented.

“The Megacy is bigger than SETE so y’all take some chill pills In Mega we trust until the finish #MetroFMAwards #RIPAKA Kairo,” a third user said.

K.O. also lost the Song of the Year award to gospel artist Betusile Mcinga’s Ngena Noah, which surprised many people, including Cassper Nyovest.

“I really thought K.O. would take a song of the year at the Metros. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought so,” Cassper tweeted.

K.O. has not given up on his music career and has announced that he will be releasing a new album soon.

“I’m dropping an album this year! I’m excited about it because it’s going to be different from anything I’ve ever done before. It’s going to be more personal and more experimental. I hope you guys will love it as much as I do,” he said.
