The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, has this morning held a media briefing on Bester’s ID and Dr. Magudumana’s urgent application in the High Court on Thursday to declare her arrest ‘Wrongful and Unlawful’.
Motsoaledi has indicated that the Department of Home Affairs is challenging Dr. Nandipha Magudumana’s urgent application in High Court in Bloemfontein on Thursday. They claim that for her team to go to court and say she was abducted, and they don’t cite the Department as respondents in court papers, is suspect.
Dr. Motsoaledi emphasized that they did not ‘abduct’ anyone in Tanzania. “We would not have undermined the rules in a sovereign state.” Motsoaledi said.
Nandipha and Thabo Bester were arrested in Tanzania after a warrant of arrest was issued for them. For now, it is not clear whether some rules were broken when they were being extradited from Tanzanian authorities on the process to bring them back to South Africa.
Motsoaledi also indicated that, Home Affairs is revoking the passport of Dr. Nandipha Magudumana. She was reportedly found in possession in Tanzania of her passport and two of Dr. Mmereka Ntshani’s ‘Dr. Pashy’ passports. “She no longer deserves it.” Motsoaledi said.
