What is happening here today, I never anticipated its still feels like a dream that we might all have to wake up from”
Connie Ferguson spoke to her husband, Shona Ferguson, in a recorded message about the grief her husband has left her in and how she is prepared to try to stay strong for the family, especially the girls (Thier daughters).
“I know you’ll always be in our hearts, and we’ll always treasure the time we spent together,” she continued. “I remember walking to crest and seeing older people walking together holding hands, and we imagined ourselves being that old and holding hands.”
“I nursed you for four weeks, 28 days to be exact, and I have never met someone as strong as you Shon, how you fought at the hospital, so I want you to know I’m really proud of you,” she continued.
In a poignant speech delivered by several family members, it was the daughters who sent meaningful messages to their father, demonstrating that despite their pain, their father has taught them to be brave and resilient.
Connie Matsunyane-daughter, Ferguson’s Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson, spoke about how pleased she was to have spent the last two decades with Shona and how he taught her to be strong and to love hard and loudly.
“We lost a very unique piece of our hearts last week Friday, and it feels as fresh every day as it did when we heard the news,” Lesedi continues.
The Minister of Sports Arts and Calture, Nathi Mothethwa, was among those who attended the burial, which was largely attended by people in the sector.
