Because this is the biggest wedding on the show since season 1, and because people have already seen these two actors together on Generations as Karabo and Tau, the standard has already been set. People expect this to be massive and bigger and better than what they saw. With this, we wanted to go over the top but still very classical and gracious so we went with a black and white theme. This was purely because I thought of chess and how we have the king and queen. To me, Harriet has found her king and this chessboard type of theme for their wedding represents them well,” she adds.
Although the wedding isn’t a real one, the production team made sure to pay attention to all the details of the event. From the guest’s seats having their individual names on them, to the wedding cake being specially made by the renowned Chef Zondi and Harriet’s two dresses being designed by Biji La Maison de Couture – they pulled all the stops.
Viewers will also be excited to see Harriet’s friend Lindiwe (played by Sindi Dlathu) from The River, crossover to the show to attend the wedding. Harriet’s son, Kagiso (played by Loyiso MacDonald), will also be at the wedding after not being home for a long time.
“I don’t think Hector and Vuyiswa’s relationship was well thought out. I think at that time Hector thought he was ready to take a leap of faith when it comes to loving Vuyiswa but unfortunately, just like in life, with some of these things you make the wrong calculations,” Rapulana tells TRUELOVE during the filming of the wedding episode, which took place at the picturesque Avianto Wedding venue in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg.
He adds that, in the story, it makes much more sense for Hector to be with Harriet instead of Vuyiswa.
“There were many red flags in Vuyiswa and Hector’s marriage. I mean, right after their wedding Vuyiswa got Hector arrested and there was always that thing where she didn’t believe that Hector was as innocent as he was portraying himself to be. With Harriet it’s different because they understand each others’ pulse and what makes them click is more common than what Hector had with Vuyiswa. It’s been long coming because Hector has always had that little spark for Harriet,” he concludes.
To pull off this glamorous wedding fit for the rich Khoza and Sebata families, the head of the show’s art department, Odette Ool, tells us that it took months of planning and a lot of outsourcing and working in cohesion with the various departments involved in the show to make the wedding as real as possible.
“The writers will come to me about their plan to create a wedding and once I’ve developed the look and feel of it, the creative director will approve and we’ll start planning. We always work with Nono Events for such things and once we’ve found a venue, I book the décor with Nono and we start working together about the look and feel,” she says.
Ool also explains that she decided to go with the black and white chessboard theme for the wedding because she felt it best represents Harriet and Hector.
