Orlando Pirates reached the crowning moment on Saturday night after beating Bloemfontein Celtics 2-1 on Saturday evening at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The Buccaneers were led by Bafana Bafana skipper Thulani Hlatshwayo as they lifted the MTN 8 trophy. Many fans were left with questions over the whereabouts of long serving star Happy Jele.
A week after Thulani Hlatshwayo shared that he would be more than happy to let Happy Jele lift the MTN 8 trophy, he was a no show and the club had provided an explanation for his sudden absence.
According to Orlando Pirates, Happy Jele was sick with flu and that is the only reason he wasn’t available despite various speculations. Everyone knows that the covid-19 has changed the way people do things and this could’ve been a precaution from the club incase of a positive infection.
Many fans aren’t buying the explanation from the club as many speculated that the incident with Screamer Tshabalala during the Capetown City match played a role in his absence.
In case you missed it, Happy Jele was seen having a conversation with Screamer during the match and he was later seen in the field allegedly relaying the message to the rest of the squad. This sparked major controversy and rumors.
This speculation is seemingly not true and there is no power struggle at Orlando Pirates and if there is, it is not as bad as the media makes it out to be. Screamer Tshabalala was seen celebrating with the rest of the team at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
When it comes to the issue of captaincy, it is also highly unlikely that is has caused bad blood within the squad. One thing many fans aren’t aware of is that Happy Jele and Thulani Hlatshwayo are actually good friends outsife of the field and they both want to see Orlando Pirates fans happy.
