Mafatshe was severely assaulted by hip hop star Pitch Black Afro (real name Thulani Ngcobo) on Friday 3 February 2006 at the after-party of the South African premiere of the feature film Tsotsi.

Mafatshe reportedly asked the music star when his next album was due for release and was met with a flurry of punches which knocked him to the ground.

According to reports Pitch Black’s friends joined the fray, kicking, slapping and punching Mafatshe while the Rosebank Mall security guards stood by.

The Mall later demanded compensation from Pitch Black’s record company, Ghetto Ruff, claiming the musician and his friends broke tables, chairs and windows worth thousands of rands during the altercation.

No charge of assault was layed, however.

In 2013 he had a starring role as Taps, a smooth-as-silk playa who relies on his charm to get out of trouble – which is often – in the SABC1 sitcom Single Guys.
