Actress, model and activist. After a career as a model, gracing the pages of such local -South African- and international titles as Truelove, Oprah Magazine, Glamour, ELLE and walking the runways of local brand SunGoddess, Nompilo landed her first acting role in 2012 on Mzansi Magic’s, and South Africa’s, first Telenovela, iNkaba. She honed her acting skills on iNkaba working alongside legendary South African actors such as John Kani, Magic Hlatswayo, Baby Cele and Ernest Ndlovu. This lead to roles in SABC 3’s long running daily, Isidingo, where she played Amuhle, and later a Mzansi Magic drama series, Saints And Sinners, in the role of Phindile Khumalo. The latter being her most notable role to date, after three seasons. Her film career began when she was cast in a lead role, in an Arabic comedy, staring alongside Egyptian actor and comedian Ramez Galal, titled “My Wife And My Lady”(2014). In 2014 she landed the role of Thandi in a Portuguese and English action film titled Diaz Santana, which is an Angolan and South African collaboration shot in Cape Town and Luanda, Angola. The film, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and released in 2016 , also stars Rapulana Seiphemo, David O’ Hara and Hakeem Kae-Kazim. In 2016, while doing an interview, she revealed publicly for the first time that much like her character Phindi , in Saints And Sinners, she too was a rape and a suicide survivor. Which lead her to want to use her platform to speak to young women just like her, who have suffered with issues relating to abuse, self-esteem, depression and suicide. Which is her passion outside of the arts.
