In parliament recently, Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa revealed that during a recent dinner gala that had cost the department a whopping R16 million for the night, South African Grammy winners that had attended the event were each given R250 000, Sunday World reported.

ZIZI KODWA SHARES 250K TO EACH GRAMMY WINNER
This follows after the Democratic Alliance(DA) asked for a breakdown of payment costs for Grammy award winners, the publication shared.

Earlier in April, Zizi Kodwa took to Twitter and announced that he had honoured Grammy winners Black Coffee, Zakes Bantwini, Nomcebo Zikode, and Wouter Kellerman at a formal all-black event. Miriam Makeba, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, John Lindemann, Soweto Gospel Choir, and Lebo M Morake were also part of the list.

“We gathered to honor our own legends who have continued to fly our flag internationally with excellence. We celebrate and recognize South African Grammy Award winners. I am extending words of gratitude to the creative sector that joined us in recognising these stars,” Kodwa said.

In his response to the DA, Kodwa reportedly said there was no public bid for the lucrative tender to host the gala.

“No tender was advertised as the department used its procurement sourcing strategy as per its SCM policy which allows the department to appoint a panel of events management service providers for a period of 36 months,” he was quoted as saying.
