Renowned sangoma, DJ, and podcaster, Gogo Skhotheni, has made headlines after revealing her profound spiritual transformation, where she has turned to God while still embracing her role as a traditional healer.Tumi Motsoeneng, affectionately known as Gogo Skhotheni, recently made waves by announcing her decision to dedicate her life to God. However, she clarified that this spiritual shift does not mean she has forsaken her calling as a sangoma.
In an exclusive interview with TshisaLIVE, Gogo Skhotheni shed light on her journey, acknowledging that she had previously delved into practices associated with dark magic while utilizing her spiritual gifts. She candidly admitted to instances where she had unwittingly contributed to negative energies by providing clients with isichitho (muthi aimed at driving couples apart).
“This journey of ubungoma, you end up doing witchcraft and other things… so I think it’s one of the darkest journeys I’ve been on as a healer myself. I had to differentiate between being a healer and being a witch — being a healer is what I chose and it goes along with God. I am a sangoma who believes in God and puts God in everything I do. I love God and he loves me too,” she explained.
Gogo Skhotheni further revealed the personal struggles she faced, including challenges in her family life and marital relationship. Despite these trials, she attested to experiencing divine intervention and grace, which ultimately led her to reevaluate her spiritual path and renew her commitment to God.“I’ve given my life to God before but obviously as a child of God there are certain things which I shouldn’t have done, but I did. So I eventually had to rebuild my relationship with God because I saw his mercy upon my life,” she shared.
Despite her newfound faith, Gogo Skhotheni emphasized that she remains dedicated to her role as a traditional healer, integrating her spiritual beliefs with her devotion to God.
Gogo Skhotheni’s journey echoes that of other public figures who have undergone spiritual transformations, including Somizi’s former partner, Palesa Madisakwane, and former Generations actor Thabiso Mokhethi. While some, like Madisakwane and Mokhethi, renounced their ancestral callings, Gogo Skhotheni’s path demonstrates a unique fusion of traditional healing practices with Christian faith. As she embarks on this new chapter of spiritual enlightenment, Gogo Skhotheni’s story serves as a reminder of the complexities of personal belief systems and the power of redemption and renewal. Her openness about her journey resonates with many, offering hope and inspiration to those navigating their own paths of faith and self-discovery.
