If it hadn’t been for the influence of her grandaughter, who pushed her into acting, she might not have been wowing us on our tiny screen. She went on to work as a dental educator at a dental care school after a few years. Her acting career was influenced by her grandaughter Noluthando Maleka, she acknowledged once. Noluthando Maleka is well known for his role as Dudu on Yizo Yizo.
“When Noluthando was three years old, I remember taking her to her first audition for a Stork margarine commercial. “I never aspired to be an actress and had no experience with the trade,” she says.
“The director asked if I could do some extra work for them when I went to the set of Soul City with her. “I didn’t hesitate; I went ahead and did it, and they seemed to appreciate it,” she says.
After being a part of the Soul City cast, the rest, as they say, is history. Her performance on Soul City launched her into the public eye. Her acting career has lasted decades, and she is a powerhouse in the entertainment business to be reckoned with.
Following her performance on Soul City, she became one of the most sought-after actors. In 1997, she was cast as Edward Mukwevho’s counselor on Muvhango.
She transferred from Muvhango to Isidingo before getting a position on City Ses’La. Her reign, however, was short-lived because she joined and Zabalaza.
She made an unexpected comeback on Generations after her disastrous departure from Zabalaza. She was a regular on Generations, but only as a guest star on the second-most-watched drama series.
Despite her extensive career as an actress, the lead actress is one of the lowest paid members of the group. We can all agree that her take-home money is appropriate given her amount of time on set, despite being the lowest paid. Ivy is one of the performers who is paid each call, with a monthly salary of R30 000 for her Gog’ Flo persona.
