Mzansi Magic’s reimagining of the fascinating story of the Rain Queen, Queen Modjadji, is well underway with a fascinating cast to match.The drama series is inspired by the legendary rainmaker whose bloodline ruled Southern Africa’s Lobedu clan for centuries.
It will feature a creative cast selected based on their ability to master the Khelovedu language and to closely portray the historic figures that form a significant part of the story in the lead up to Queen Modjadji’s reign, including two former Miss South Africas.
The show was announced in February 2024 and was met with intrigue and anticipation at what the latest offering of African storytelling will look like.

Fresh talent continues to make its way to Mzansi television with Masutang Rasekele. She will play Dzugudini, the daughter of the Rain King and the mother of Queen Modjadji.

Miss SA 2022 winner and Miss Universe representative Ndavi Nokeri plays the role of Muthanoni Khensani, another of the king and queen’s wives from the vaTsonga royal family. Thabo Bopape is Mambo Mugodo
Thabo is known as double threat as a film director and actor in shows like Justice Served and films like The Forgiven.
He now lends his craft as the Supreme Mambo or King of the Kharanga Kingdom who is obsessed with becoming the greatest rainmaker and is racing against time to fix his mistakes and restore the balance as required by his ancestors and end a severe drought.
The show is set to premiere in July 2024. As more characters will be released throughout the series’ production, the question remains who will play the legendary Queen Modjadji?
