Drama was brewing on social media for the past 2 days due to the cross over song that lead us into 2022. Annually uKhozi FM has a list of top songs that are eligible into sending us into the New Year. The listeners then have the power to vote and select their song. It was no different this year and this is how the list looked like.
The list had heavy contenders and the favorite to win was Zakes Bantwini with his hit song Osama. It was thee song to listen to this summer. Not excluding Maphorisa and Kabza de small, they had an incredible year. Sadly neither of them won but DJ Hlo won and led us to 2022 with her song Isibani.
The whole country was in shock on how did this unknown DJ Hlo win such a prestigious title? To show nobody knew her we all thought it was a male DJ only to find out she’s female. Our local celebrities such as Sizwe Dhlomo and former uKhozi FM DJ Ngizwe Mncunu wanted to know who this DJ Hlo is as nobody knew her until the first of Jan.
The country is saying there was a brown envelope involved in this saga. They refuse to believe an unknown DJ would win Song of year with a song South Africans don’t know.
For three years in a row uKhozi FM failed to deliver. Another shocking year was when Mroza Fakude won the title with his song Van Damme. The country wants uKhozi to be stripped of those rights.
But we not here to dwell too much on that as I am here to introduce to you who DJ Hlo is.
Born Hlosiwe Mlangeni, DJ Hlo is an amapiano artist and University of Kwa Zulu Natal graduate. She studies Industrial Psychology at UKZN’s Howard College. She is 24 years old and is inspired by DJ Zinhle. She promised to release an album in 2022.
DJ Hlo’s net worth is an estimated R1,5 million. She owns a fairly used Mercedes G Wagon, among other cars. She also charges between R15,000 to R25,000 for a gig, earning not less than R800,000 annually.
