Get to know Babeile from Skeem Saam

Mathews Manamela is a celebrated South African actor who is best known for his role as Sergeant Babeile on the SABC 1 educational drama series Skeem Saam. He has gained a lot of attention for his good acting skills. He is a talented and ambitious man who is working around the clock to secure his future.

He was born to Esrom and Stephina Manamela, and he has three siblings. He has built himself a solid foundation for his career. The star actor is a native of Polokwane in Limpopo Province. “I did a lot of research about the police and the significant training officers get,” he said. “Police officers don’t behave like civilians; they need to carry themselves in a certain way to maintain the respect between them and civilians.”It has also helped that he has a cousin who is a police officer, from whom he could draw inspiration. One of his other cousins also doubles up as his colleague, Harriet Manamela (who plays Meikie Maputla).


 

 

 

Speaking further about his background, Manamela said he was originally from the township of Seshego, Limpopo, before he moved to Johannesburg in 1991, in his early teens, to stay with his uncle.

After joining a community theater group and eventually graduating with a three-year diploma, his career started off with him working as a freelance artist.Though he still holds his upbringing and background close to his heart, Manamela has big plans for his future.He said he would like to have his work produced and televised.
