Ntombifuthi Dlamini (born in 1985) is an actress, better known for the character Madlala on SABC 1’s soapie Uzalo. She was born in KwaMashu, Durban, South Africa.
It wasn’t all great on her side from the beginning as she lived off a minimum wage of being a cleaner. She comes from humble beginnings and she’s forever grateful for the job she has at Uzalo as it has been able to open up more doors for her.
Although Ntombifuthi did state that she’s unlike her character on Uzalo. “I’m a very shy person but Mam’ Madlala is outspoken. I also, dress differently and I’m not a keen churchgoer,” said Ntombifuthi explaining the difference between her and the character of Madlala on Uzalo.
People have to start somewhere in life, no-one just becomes the most praised person at birth. Ntombifuthi has paid her dues, as she was earning a small salary as a clinic janitor, however, never settle for less as she kept knocking on different doors.
Ntombifuthi Dlamini stays with her late sister’s children and opens up about financial struggles before landing the Uzalo role.
“I thank God every day for this on-screen role; I had worked as a cleaner before and was struggling with the upkeep of my family. The company (Stained Glass Production) offered me a role when I wasn’t qualified; I thank God for that.”
