Generations’ actor after ‘Yebo Gogo’ icon dies

Former Generations actor, Akin Omotoso’s father, Bankole Omotoso, whose best known for starring in Vodacom’s iconic adverts died on Wednesday, 19 July in Johannesburg after suffering from long health problems.

 

 

Akin Omotoso is best known for acting in his former role as Khaya Motene in South Africa’s popular soapie, Generations. On 20 July, the renowned actor announced that his father died via an Instagram post. The actor’s father leaves behind his wife, Bukky, and his children, Pelayo, Ife, Yewande, as well as Akin.

Akin’s father Bankole Omotoso is an icon in Mzansi. Not only has he starred in several Vodacom’s Yebo Gogo adverts alongside Michael De Pinna, but, he has also bagged movie roles, including Mandela And De Klerk where he acted in the role of the former South Africa president, Thabo Mbeki, Times Live reported.“We are mourning the loss of our father, husband and grandfather… he never missed an opportunity to engage in new topics. An astute socio-political critic, his criticality never got in the way of his belief in humanity. We will miss him,” the Omotoso family said in a statement.

Since Bankole’s death was announced, several local celebrities have sent their condolences to their friend, Akin on social media.“We are better people for having known him and loved him. Long live the spirit of Prof Kole, long live! 🙏🏾💔,” @sthakgoroge said.

“God be with you and your family 🙏🏾 Rest in power to the legend!!” @thomasgumede replied.
