Many social media users are calling for Gayton McKenzie to be arrested or questioned over a statement he made on Twitter, telling South Africans to deal decisively with illegal immigrants or foreigners. The statement has been described as unworthy of a politician and a public figure, as they attack the Patriotic Alliance (PA) president and founder. Trouble started when Gayton McKenzie who has in the past received several tongue lashing from journalists for xenophobic statements, wrote, “Illegal foreigners get sjambok in their home countries, here they have the nerve to do this nonsense. We need to deal decisively with them soonest”. Many people said that Gayton McKenzie strives on xenophobic politics, saying that he is not worthy to be a leader. Recall that Gayton McKenzie and the media are always at loggerheads because of the issue of illegal immigrants, to the extent he said he will not engage with the media any more.
A social media user who agreed with Gayton McKenzie’s statement said that most of the illegal immigrants and undocumented foreigners are protected by numerous NGOs. He said, “One of the things South Africa must deal with is the endless number of NGOs and so called ‘Human Rights’ organizations that act on behalf of foreign interests. They are the ones promoting illegal migration and fighting for their stay in South Africa”. Another person, Prof Moya wrote, “South Africa has simply become of the so-called human rights laws they are trying to look good on. All heinous illegal immigrants flock to SA because of protective laws for illegals. Some lousy award SA government hopes to win from the UN for protection of illegals will collapse SA. Our weak laws are a taken advantage of by criminals… in Nigeria and Zimbabwe the police deal with criminality, here the illegals act strong and even provoke the police because they know the Anti-Xenophobic party EFF will protect them. SA will sink faster than Lilly, mine and swallow all of us”.
