At 32 years old, Pat Lambie would have been at his prime as a Springbok in the Rugby World Cup had he not hung up his boots in early retirement.
Instead, the blonde, blue-eyed poster boy has taken an unlikely career path.
In 2019, a relatively fit Lambie dropped a bombshell that he was leaving the Boks. This, amid concern for his own health.Just months ahead of the Springboks clinching the 2019 Rugby World Cup, Pat Lambie – then 28 – made his shocking retirement announcement.
Lambie revealed that several serious concussions had forced him to prioritise his health over his rugby career.
He told SA Rugby Mag: “It is a really big decision, and I have extremely mixed emotions about it. I am bitterly disappointed and sad because I still have some dreams on the rugby field. I feel like some good playing days are ahead of me. But on the other hand, I feel relieved to know that I will not be at risk of further more severe head injuries. He continued: “Considering the number of concussions I have suffered and, above that, the number amount of time it takes to shake off the symptoms afterward, it is better to avoid the risk of further head injuries.”
WHERE IS HE NOW?
Since leaving the Springboks four years ago, Pat Lambie has become an established property developer. He’s even revealed a personal project of designing his own home.
