The Bala Family consists of Zwai who is considered as the traditionalist.

Zwai was part of the popular nineties group TKZee which produced the hit song Shibobo.

He will be joined on the reality show by Loyiso the peacekeeper and Phelo the rebel.

There is also room for their sister Pinky, mother Veronica “who binds everything together”, and the rest of the Bala clan.

The show, which is being screened on 1Magic and Mzansi Magic, promises to be a frank examination of how the family overcomes obstacles related to individual religious and cultural beliefs, sexuality, culture and more.

Loyiso, 43, said yesterday that the show was rooted in the Bay.

“We are all back home now, except for Zwai, so much of the action takes place in our individual homes here. I feel the show really should be owned by this city.”

He said they had quickly forgotten about the cameras and had just been themselves.

Oldest brother Zwai made history by becoming the first black member of the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School.

After school, he joined kwaito group TKZee and, in 2010, he performed with them at the Rugby World Cup.

In 2011, he was nominated for a Grammy for best traditional world music album for his production on the Soweto Gospel Choir’s Grace .

Like both Zwai and Loyiso, youngest brother Phelo also attended Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School.

In 2011, he joined multiaward-winning gospel ensemble Joyous Celebration and also released a self-titled debut solo album that year.

In 2014, he confirmed his calling as a sangoma.

Among the other family members who will feature in the show is Jennifer, Loyiso’s wife, a half-Ghanian half-Polish entrepreneur who grew up in Germany and met Loyiso in the UK.

The show premiered on DStv ’ s 1Magic channel 103 on Friday at 7.30pm and will continue in that slot.

It will also premier on Mzansi Magic channel 161 at 8pm on Thursday and continue in that slot.
