Paris and surrounding cities have been hit with a plague of bed bugs, and South Africans are concerned that high-profile figures like Bonang Matheba, Miss SA Natasha Joubert, and even the Springbok national team could bring them home.
The media personality was one of many celebs who visited the French capital in recent days.In the past week, media outlets have reported that Paris and other French cities have seen an outbreak of bed bugs. Videos of the creepy crawlies invading hotels, public transport, and even movie cinemas have gone viral on social media.
According to CNBC, the French environment ministry says the insects “made a resurgence since disappearing in the 1950s due to international travel and increased resistance to pesticides”.
Health experts aded that the increase is not new and is common during warmer months.

Meanwhile, Bonang Matheba has laughed off speculation she has brought back a “souvenir” from Paris in the form of bed bugs.
Like Miss SA Natasha Joubert, the TV and radio host took part in Paris Fashion Week and stayed in the capital city for several days.
When on Twitter or X follower posted: “Don’t come back with bed bugs,” she responded: “I’m home and imbungulu (bed bug) free.”
