Dloz’lami: Birds of mourning help a young girl deal with her loneliness after her mothers death

The show started with a bird sitting on a strangers car that was identified as Boipelo’s grandmother.

Animals are representational
This season we have been delving more into animals representing the life of others. Who can forget the infamous frog episode where an ailing old man needed to be healed by his wife on the other side?

There were quite a few skeptics when that episode aired. This week it was the burden delivering the word.

Boipelo’s mother decided to come through in the best way. She went to her bedroom first, commending her daughter for keeping it the exact same way as before she died. They headed to the living room and Vero explained that because she didn’t have the strength to help her daughters because she was stuck in her ex-husband’s kraal.

They hadn’t caged her like Boipelo thought, but they were keeping her aside. She was powerless to help her children and be around. What needed to happen, was that she needed to be freed.

Once this was explained, a dove was brought in to represent Vero, Boipelo’s mother. The dove was then released as part of the process to free her from the Mugeti kraal and Boipelo was instructed to keep the bird until she dreamt of her mother, only then could she be sure her mother was free.

Final Thoughts
This didn’t surprise me in the least. I’m aware of how divorces work with my own grandmother having given back her marriage surname when she divorced my grandfather. It is something every divorcee must do. It is somewhat surprising though that the ex-husband’s kraal would keep a mother from looking after her children.

I can’t imagine the agony of watching and not being able to be a good ancestor for your children. It must hurt. I’m so glad Boipelo found closure.
