This week on Dloz’lami we met a disgruntled ancestor who was sending Thembi into the streets, refusing to come and appear before her family she was summoned for. She was furious with them for fighting over a house that wasn’t even her own.
It was later revealed that Jane was married into the Dube family and that is how she came to be there.
The grandchildren were bickering over the house and Jane’s daughter was in the fray, fighting as well but the matriach quickly disregarded this. After being offered a nip of brandy she stayed long enough to cede control over to Jack, the real owner of the house. It was such a shocking turn of events as he claimed he would kill them all one by one.
Jane’s daughter, Minah was the real source of the problems here. She’s one of those women who abandon their children once they get married and this was causing them problems. The resentment her children were feeling were beyond the present. It was clear there was a correlation to how they were raised and how desperate their situation was.
However despite this I did not expect Jack to threaten them all. In fact, it seemed more like a promise. He told them all if they didn’t leave his house and lock the door behind them, he would kill them all. It wasn’t anything one could misinterpret. It was simple and clear. He wanted to them to vacant the premises.
Personal Thoughts
It makes sense to me that Jack would be angry. Ancestors love recognition, they love to not be forgotten and they had clearly forgotten him. His authority was not being respected and all kinds of rituals were being performed without acknowledging him.
I wanted to feel bad for the family left behind but they didn’t seem to deserve it. If being in an argumentative family has taught me one thing, it’s that everyone thinks they are right. No one ever wants to admit fault or change their ways. It seems they won’t be united anyway since the house is a no-go. Maybe they’ll be better off apart.
