Minister of Corporate governance Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has further intensified restrictions on funerals. Nkosazana Zuma said funerals are super spreaders of the corona virus, which has claimed over 25 000 lives. Speaking in detail about the readjusted level 2 announced by president Cyril Ramaphosa, Dlamini-Zuma said the funeral will no longer be allowed to go on for longer than two hours. She said this will decrease the chances of the virus spreading within funeral.
Previously under level 1 there was no specified time on when funerals should go on, making it more likely for the virus to spread. But the adjusted level 3 announced by Ramaphosa, came with stricter guidelines for funerals. Dlamini-Zuma also touched on the matter of singing in funeral savings, saying many people tend to remove their masks while singing. She said this has to stop and suggested that people should only listen to instruments.
“People in churches should wear masks, and should also keep them on when singing. If they can not do this, then only the instrument should play,” she said.
Dlamini-Zuma also warned people that the police will not hesitate to make arrests should they fail to wear their masks in public.
