Dawn was born on October 1 1977, in Eshowe Kwazulu Natal. After finishing her matric with good grades, the actress enrolled for tertiary education at Technikon Natal, now the Durban University of Technology, where she graduated with an honours degree in drama.

After graduating, Dawn worked in the tourism industry for ages and later abandoned her job to follow her passion for acting. Her debut comes in the telenovela Lockdown where she portrayed the character of Mazet. She killed her Mazet character resulting in her scoring other acting gigs. Years later, in the acting industry, another massive door flings open for Dawn, and she was hired to play Mangcobo on Uzalo. Her role on Uzalo thrust her into the limelight, becoming one of the most paid actors in Mzansi. Rumours are she left Uzalo after she bags an acting gig in Diep City, where she is the most paid cast member.
