eality TV star Makgotso ‘Gogo Maweni’ Makopo of ‘Izangoma Zodumo’ fame, is smack in the middle of rumours.
Gogo Maweni is a practicing sangoma who has been the talk of town since the release of Izangoma Zodumo, which has ruffled more than a few feathers.
Izangoma Zodumo, according to a description by DStv, is a reality show about “two slay queens who have answered the calling”, and Gogo Maweni definitely came through with the drama from day one.
Gogo Maweni had a sit down with TshisaLIVE to address the backlash against the show, but to took the time to also set the record straight on those “witchcraft comments” that caused a stir and gave fans a front row seat into her life.
“I said Gogo Maweni knows how to bewitch people. I never said I do. Listening is a skill and not all of us acquire it. It’s not my job to make you comfortable, I’m not about that life I said, ‘I can do. I don’t do.’ It’s not like I’m saying I do it all the time.”
Makgotso said she had to know how to do witchcraft because when clients who are victims of witchcraft came to her, she had to know how to help them.
“How do you treat something you don’t know how to create?”
Gogo Maweni posted a picture of her snake on Instagram (see picture above). The presence of a snake has the audience taken by the rumours that she does indeed dabble in black magic.
Anyone can have any animal as a pet, as is legally possible. But, knowing what a snake represents to people who deal with spirits, she should atleast repress her love for snakes and rather opt for say… a dog. But this could just be a calling card, subtly alerting those that know, that she does hold powerful dark magic potions. Who knows.
The truth is that television has given us the perception that witches wear black and sport a gothic make up look. Witches can be slay queens and kings from Sandton, operating from an office at Michael Angelo.
From proud declarations that she can bewitch people, to having snakes as a pet, this sangomas seems to be inviting drama by fueling discussions around her.
