On Thursday, a bus carrying employees of the Lagos State Government was involved in an accident with a moving train in the Ikeja neighborhood of the state. The driver of the bus has now asked for forgiveness from the victims of the crash.

Surviving accident victim Titilayo told reporters that they had pleaded with the bus driver to stop for the train to pass before the crash occurred, but he had refused.

The bus driver, who works for the Lagos State Ministry of Transport, explained his side of the story, saying that the accident was caused by a mechanical failure.

Not my fault, you understand. What was wrong with me that I didn’t notice the red flags? It turned out to be a mechanical issue with the bus. The unfortunate event has occurred. In the name of God, I beg you all to forgive me. The newspaper Vanguard cited him as saying.
