Cop who won SA Idols is back at work with new celebrity status

The cop who grabbed the headlines when he won season 18 of South African Idols is back at work.

He had initially divulged that he has no intentions of quitting the police force after he won big at Idols.

He has lived up to his words as he has returned to work.

Thapelo Molomo, who was nicknamed the singing cop, said he felt so relieved to be back in the force.

The warrant officer, a registered counsellor in the police’s employee health and wellness department at the Brits police station, returned to work on 5 December after taking leave to focus on the singing competition.

Police Minister Bheki Cele attended the Idols finals and he was one of the first people to congratulate him when he won the crown.

Cele added that officers like Molomo were ambassadors who gave the SAPS a good name.

“My colleagues really welcomed me with so much joy, excitement and disbelief that I actually came back to work. They were so happy, and some said their children wanted to see me,” he said.

Surely that celebrity status is living large in his heart.
