The murder of Kelly Khumalo’s former boyfriend, Bafana Bafana goaltender and Orlando Pirates goalie Senzo Meyiwa, in 2014 allegedly led to death threats being made against her.
On October 26, 2014, Meyiwa was shot and killed in Khumalo’s Vosloorus residence, shocking the entire nation.
The “Asine” hitmaker said that she and her family had frequently received death threats in an interview with eNCA’s Slindelo Masikane just hours before the debut of the third season of her reality series “Life With Kelly Khumalo.”
“My life has been endangered. My family has received threats not just once, but several times, and I believe the legislation should be in place to protect me and give me the sense that I have a right to safety for both my family and myself, Khumalo says Masikane.
Online trolls have harassed the local singer constantly, assaulting her at every opportunity.
Khumalo, who has consistently maintained her innocence, says she would only provide her side of the story when she has her day in court.
“I’m one of the people that need to say something but however, the public does not understand the court proceedings. I cannot just get on TV and speak”, says Kelly.
Some people, including the attorneys for four of the five individuals detained in connection with the murder of the Meyiwa, have claimed that Khumalo killed her footballer lover.
During his cross-examination of police forensic expert Sergeant Thabo Mosia in June, Teffo said, “I put it to you Mr. Mosia that a witness, not just a witness, but an eyewitness would testify that Senzo R Meyiwa was allegedly shot by Nonhlanhla Kelly Khumalo by accident, as it is said.
He said, “The same eyewitness would further testify that the weapon Kelly Khumalo used to shoot Senzo Robert Meyiwa is a revolver and the weapon arrived with Longwe Twala.”
Khumalo responded to her critics and those who think she killed Meyiwa in an exclusive interview with IOL Lifestyle’s sister newspaper Saturday Star.
All I see are broken individuals who like breaking other people. I ask God to cure them. Being in their situation must be really depressing. They have my love and light.
“I am the offspring of my forefathers and God. I’m always going to be safe. They may continue to despise me and feel extremely secure in their position since I will continue to exist for a very long time.
