South Africa’s entertainment industry continues to mourn the loss of Mncedisi Baldwin Shabangu, who died in the early hours of July 24, 2022.

Shabangu was a veteran of both theatre and television, and he is best known for his role as Khulekani on the former eTV hit flagship drama series Rhythm City.
Shabangu’s on-screen daughter, Kealeboga Masango, took to Facebook to share a photo of herself with the late actor. The caption read, “Continue To Rest in peace baba,” and it was clear that she was still grieving the loss of her TV dad.

 

 

 

 

Actor Bohlokwa Larona Mpiti, who played Mncedisi Shabangu’s on-screen son on Rhythm City, also paid tribute to the late actor. Mpiti shared a series of photos on social media, including one of him and Shabangu sitting on a couch in a sitting room that was their house on the drama series.

In the photo, Khulekani was holding a glass of alcohol, and the two actors were smiling as they stared at each other.

In another set of photos, the two were in the Rhythm City studio, sitting at the dinner table as they ate breakfast. Behind them was a crew member who was cleaning Khulekani’s suit. The background had acting props and a makeshift wall used for acting, as well as bright studio lights.
It is clear that he made a significant impact on the entertainment industry during his career. In 2020, he won a Best Supporting Actor accolade at the South Africa Film and Television Award for his role as Khulekani on Rhythm City.
