Comedian and actor Tracy Morgan is divorcing his wife of five years

Tracy Morgan and wifeIn a statement given to PEOPLE, the actor said they’ve decided to split and it has been a “challenging time” for everyone involved.

“Sadly, after nearly five years of marriage, Megan and I are filing for divorce. This is a challenging time for all involved, so I ask that you please respect our privacy,” he said.

The Death at a Funeral star and his wife share one daughter, seven-year-old Maven Sonae. He is also dad to adult sons Gitrid (34), Malcom (32) and Tracy Jr (28), whom he shares with ex-wife Sabina Morgan.Their wedding came almost 14 months after a truck slammed into the 30 Rock star’s limousine in New Jersey, leading to the death of comedian James McNair and leaving Tracy fighting for his life.The pair announced their engagement on the Emmy red carpet in September 2012 and married in an intimate ceremony in August 2015.

News of the couple’s split comes over three months after Tracy spoke to ET and joked about life during quarantine. “I’ve been in this house for two weeks with my wife, so she’s expecting now,” he joked. “I get her pregnant every week.

“There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss my friend Jimmy Mac, who sadly lost his life that night. I love you Jimmy. I thank GOD for my family,” he wrote on Twitter. “I am eternally grateful for the love and support they give me. My wife, daughter, sons, and friends are what got me back on my feet. I live every day trying to do right by them and the most of this second chance.”

Last June, on the five-year anniversary of the car accident, Tracy reflected on the tragedy and thanked his wife and children for helping him get “back on my feet”.
