Idols SA is coming to an end, with the top six contestants singing two songs each, but viewership had been dropping since fan favorite judge Somizi “Somgaga” Mhlongo had to withdraw from the competition after his disgruntled former husband, Mohale Motaung, made shocking physical abuse allegations against him.
Somizi’s last appearance on Idols was on August 22, but his supporters are contesting his dismissal.
Hashtags like #bringbacksomgaga are already trending, with some even drawing comparisons between Somizi’s “crime” and Gareth’s crimes. “ Seriously, #idolssa, if you could forgive Gareth for calling us black people monkeys (and you witnessed it on You may forgive Somgaga for something that hasn’t been established and is still on the rocks (on Twitter). “Stop being so unjust, and bring back Somizi,” one Nikho Nomadwayi bemoaned.
One TV Producer and Researcher KeeiGee Mcclouds, in response to Somizi’s question and answer Instagram post, asked him when he will return to Idols, to which Somizi replied, “Lol when Cope wins elections..kidding,” given the political party Cope’s rather dim prospects of clinching victory in the elections, we had kind of lost hope that the actor, media personality, and choreographer will be back on Idols screens for a long time if ever at all but then Somizi added at the end of his comment that he was just joking.
We wish he would come back, because he was entertaining and fun. His absent was felt and many people have stopped watching idols because he was let go.
