Celeste Ntuli gears up for a new comedy show

The comedy show is said to pay homage to the late legendary South African musician Brenda Fassie and The Big Dudes. However, in Celeste’s case “The Big Dudes” are comedians Tats Nkonzo, Isaac Gampu, Roni Modimola, Felix Hlophe. and Chris Mapane.

In conversation with IOL, the comedian shares her reasons behind the name of the comedy show.

“A female comedian will be the big dude as long as she is big in her stand up, not popular but big enough to have a great set and can be a headliner on her own. Which is another reason why I chose big Dudes as a name. I chose the line-up of hilarious comedians who have been doing this for years, some more than me”, she tells the media outlet. The comedian notes that comedy is less about “discrimination” and more about “individualism”. She goes on to encourage women to find their voices and pursue comedy.

“Comedy is one space that really has less discrimination. It’s about individualism in terms of how one delivers comedy is what makes us different from each other. To females out there, I will just say just do it”, Celeste shared.

When it comes to inspiration for her comedy, Celeste told the media outlet that she uses her personal experiences as a woman whether that be her daily life struggles, challenges or wins. “I question a lot, most of my material is based on things I question”, she notes.

Celeste continues: “As women we never run out of things to question about ourselves in the workplace. I mean these days even the question of what a woman is a controversial question in the midst of the gender bending society”.

The comedy show, Celeste Ntuli and the Big Dudes is part of Celeste’s birthday celebration and takes place on 25 August.
