Moonchild Sanelly Loves Izangoma Zodumo The nation is divided on this sacred practice being TV

Ever since the new show, Izangoma Zodumo premiered on Mzansi Magic, it has been a topic of discussion and has caused a difference on views because of the sacredness of the custom. Some are applauding the producers of the show, some feel that it is blasphemy to have it on air.The ever so bubbly and controversial singer/songwriter, Moonchild Sanelly loved the fact that the cast members are your typical South African youth, who are navigating being themselves while answering their true calling. Moonchild further states that she knows traditional healers like the ones on Izangoma Zodumo in real life and wouldn’t care what other people think if she were in the same position as them. This comes as no surprise to us because Monchild really doesn’t worry about public opinion, she lacks Abantu Bazothini Syndrome.

“#izangomazodumo is lit a and so realistic about people being people!
Young and fun!!!
If I was physically practicing, I’d be the coolest!!! I’d definitely get backlash but I wouldn’t care just like now!!! I know rock and roll thwasaz!!! It’s just on tv now!
Anyway…”

Not everyone agrees with this view, like Gigi Lamayne who expressed her disappointment in a series of Tweets about the sacrilegious nature of this reality show. The rapper accused the show and its sangoma participants of chasing clout at the disadvantage of our sacred customs, Gigi further urged people to treat these customs with care and discretion.

“So wait, ancestors love and want the attention and clout on these tv shows ?? I’m sorry, maybe I don’t understand. I know there is awareness but then there is just plain clout. This is sacred. This must be treated with care and discretion. Thoughts? ( Thread )”

“I saw this lady say plain outright that she can bewitch people if she wants. At the same time you’re healing ? How does this world collide? It’s a great talking point but let’s not forget to respect abadala.”

“They are not ornaments or tools to be used to make money and attract attention into a world of fabricated content. I’m a nobody but this has been bothering me.”

“I don’t mind the readings. For me that’s awareness. We learn. We are interested to know more about our roots. Symbolism, tradition, culture. But why are we being shown abantu abathwasayo or glam ? There is a viewers lens then there is just things we should not be seeing.”

“If it’s acting on a soapie, let it be that. But reality shows? I don’t know everything but I do know that this according to teachings from our elders is sacred. What happens ephehlweni stays there. It’s like giving a medical degree course to patients on tv. Hayi kanje.”

“Then we find freak accidents happening because people saw something to do with vinegar on tv. Teach the youth that this gift is powerful. It’s valued. It’s discreet. It’s beautiful. I’m bewildered. Teach them to connect. This isn’t a glamorous life. It’s a spiritual one.”

Last week, Ntsiki Mazwai also shared similar sentiments to Gigi, after the premiere of the series, Ntsiki posted a 2-minute clip where she bashes the show for disgracefully depicting black people as damaged for making a mockery out of their traditions.

The all-female judging line-up includes some of the country’s most respected and influential personalities with Tunzi being joined by Peggy-Sue Khumalo, Anele Mdoda, and Leandie du Randt and a fifth judge is yet to be revealed.

Miss South Africa 2020 will be crowned at The Table Bay hotel in an entertainment-packed event on Saturday, October 24, from 17h00. The event will be screened live on M-Net and Mzansi Magic and will also be streamed online.

For Zozibini this moment seems surreal, “I was a contestant on stage just a year ago and was in awe of the women on the judging panel,” she says.

Zozibini was crowned Miss Universe last year, after she scooped the Miss SA 2019 title, “I know what it is like first hand to be in the job that these incredible women are applying for. I am excited to see how that experience will be of help in the judging panel. One woman’s life is about to change and I am a part of a panel that will make that happen. I am nervous but mostly humbled and excited by it.”

Provided.

Speaking of what she will she be looking for in a potential Miss South Africa Zozibini says, “There are different aspects to look out for, but I am mostly looking for someone with raw authenticity and sincerity about who they are. I am not looking for perfection or moral purity. Someone who has a voice and an aura about her that makes almost everyone feel at ease when they come in contact with her because she will be engaging with a lot of people in the year.”

“My advice to the finalists ahead of the night is that when they hit the stage, they must not be too much in their heads. They have done an incredible job in the past few months, in and outside of their interviews. They have been the best representation of themselves. Half of the handwork is done. The final night is for them to be proud, to celebrate their achievement, and to have fun.”

“To the winner of Miss South Africa. You are going to create the most beautiful memories and touch a lot of lives. Never take that lightly or for granted; it is a blessing. There are times when things will get really hard, and when that happens, I want you to remember why you started. It will get you through the craziest days. But most of all, live in the moment and enjoy it fully because time passes by so quickly. Good luck, you are going to be incredible.”

The Top 10 Miss SA finalists who come from around the country are Aphelele Mbiyo, Busisiwe Mmotla, Chantelle Pretorius, Jordan van der Vyver, Karishma Ramdev, Lebogang Mahlangu, Melissa Nayimuli, Natasha Joubert, Shudufhadzo Musida, and Thato Mosehle.

Congratulations Zozibini.

By blue avatar, she means those alien-like people from the famous James Cameron movie Avatar. The media personality says she has achieved her goals of having a lighter frame and skin, as she aspired to look like Barbie. It is not just her face that received the transformation, but her entire body.

She shared a snippet from the interview with YFM on her Instagram but clearly after the rude comments she has decided to delete it. A follower encouraged her by writing, “If I could turn this body blue I’d do it…” another commented, “”You’re very good with words.”

Judging from her recent Instagram post, it is clear that not everyone is a major fan of her transformation. It is no secret that Khanyi has chosen to got the cosmetic route and change her appearance by lightening her skin. She has spoken proudly and candidly about it and often times she shrugs off the mean comments.

Her comments section from her latest post is filled with offensive name-calling and people giving her a thumbs down.Mbau has been praised for her speech and her ability to captivate a listener when she drops balls of wisdom. In her interview with Pearl Thusi on Behind The Story with Pearl, she reiterated what we already knew, public opinion does not deter her from living her best life.

“Your loyalty lies with yourself first .. I’m glad they like me .. but I like myself more “

“I’m not going to baby you and say ya I understand, hey girl we all have been through a lot get over it. Block the noise and be you,” said Khanyi.

In an Instagram post, Khanyi stated that the skin-lightening process began in 2011, after she realised that white makeup artists were unable to cater to her skin tone. In an attempt to rectify this issue, the actress decided to start taking Glutathione IV drips and pills, which was ultimately useless. Eventually she realised that the only way to achieve lighter skin was to use surface products, as it had the most effective results.

Khanyi further clarified that by her lightening her skin, she was not looking down upon others with darker skin. She stated that it was her personal chose, and having fair skin made her look fresh and ‘glowy.’

Whatever opinions trolls have about her, will not stop her from pursuing that ‘crazy’ idea she wants to achieve. Whether she was just making a joke or actually being serious, one thing is for sure, Khanyi Mbau always has that element of surprise.
