#JohnVuliGate Goes International All thanks to ‘Stoko’

Amapiano duo Mapara A Jazz have stormed their way into the global charts with their hit song ‘John Vuli Gate’ featuring Colano and Ntosh Gaz. They have secured their spot on the Shazam global charts top 50, sitting comfortably at number 46.The song is the reason behind the current dance craze that went viral, all thanks to a group of young girls who decided to take on the challenge at a petrol station.

South Africans have put their own on the map, this according to a American music-identification application owned by Apple Inc, who said that the songs’ success on Shazam is all because of the country’s subscribers.

Even locally, the song has positioned itself at the top of the charts with over 62 radio stations bumping their song, 252 times this week. This according to Radiomonitor.

They are sitting at number one, after a major jump from number 1 136, that’s massive! All of this in a space of five days.

Perhaps this achievement is owed to the beautiful group of girls who were celebrating a friends birthday. Their innocent video of them having fun made a larger impact by making the dance challenge go viral and grow their bank accounts.

Their video opened a window of opportunities for them as they got calls from clothing brands and alcoholic companies wanting to work with them. And now, the musos behind the song want to shoot the music video with them.

The duo wants to work with the ladies who made it all happen, Tshegofatso Maepa, Katlego Mohlahlo, Kgomotso Aphane, Oratilwe Mokwatlo and Lebogang Motalane who hail from Mpumalanga.

“We are in contact with them and we are trying to arrange reshoots to feature them. We want them in the video and add them to what we have already. So many people have requested it and we are trying to make it happen. Nothing is confirmed yet, but we are in discussions to accommodate them,” Colano told Sowetan Live.

In a statement the duo wrote: “We are so pleased to have our song John Vuli Gate become a major trend in South Africa. To have people Shazam our song around the world is a dream come true for us. People all over are taking part in the dance challenge of John Vuli Gate and loving the song. We are very happy to debut in Shazam’s charts and reach the Global Top 50. It shows people are really loving our music and want to stream it.”

Speaking to Daily Sun, the ladies who captured a moment where they were having fun at a petrol station and went viral instantly, said the video’s impact went beyond even their wildest dreams.

The birthday girl Kgomotso Aphane said they never planned on making a viral video but the idea came from a friend who posted the challenge, “A friend posted the John Vuli Gate challenge on her WhatsApp status and we loved it.”

The River: Tumi Going On Her Third Marriage

The drama never ends on the River 1 Magic and if there’s one thing Pathu does extremely well is that he knows how to strike a nerve.

Lindiwe, who’s struggled to accept her daughter’s new relationship following her divorce with Lindani, is ready to accept Mabutho as her new son-in-law. At the end of the latest episode, she said that she’ll help Tumi plan her wedding, to the surprise of Zolani, Andile and her husband Zweli Dikana.

By the looks of things, there’s another fancy wedding on the way. Here’s a recap of all of Tumi’s failed marriages.

Marriage to Zolani

In the first season of the hit-drama, Tumi got married to Zolani, whom she later found to be her cousin. The wedding almost did not happen, as the Dikanas and the Mokoena’s did not see eye to eye. The two families eventually put aside their differences so that their children could live happily ever after. They settled on a 100k lobola fee. This didn’t sit well with Lindani as Tumi has always been his highschool sweetheart. After Zolani revealed to Tumi that Lindiwe killed her father, she divorced Lindani. She also discovered that Lindiwe was her biological mother which automatically meant that Zolani was family.

Marriage to Lindano

In season two, Tumi finally got married to her childhood sweetheart Lindani who helped save her life from Lindiwe. [Spolier Alert] Their marriage started losing its spark in the current and she felt that she had lost her feelings for him. She began an affair with Lindani’s cousin from KZN Mabutho. The two kept on seeing one another until they eventually got caught. Lindani and Tumi tired saving their marriage until they decided that divorce was the best option.

Marriage on the cards
Things quickly escalated between Tumi and loverboy Mabutho. He’s already sent a request for marriage to the Dikanas and has asked Tumi for her hand in marriage. The two families have given them their blessing for marriage and it appears the could be a third and extravagant wedding for Tumza.

Isibaya Cast And Crew Bid Farewell To Siyabonga Thwala And it’s a wrap!

All good things come to an end, so they say. Isibaya’s treasure Siyabonga Twala has wrapped up shooting his final scene after a long 8-year-run with the telenovela. He is the 5th lead actor to leave the show and he will be dearly missed. The cast and crew members celebrated what was an incredible journey and held a small farewell ceremony where the production team shared a few words. A very talented actor who embodied two distinct characters in one show had many in their feels. Mpiyakhe Zungu was one of TV’s most loved characters, with his charm and wit, he captivated the lives of many. Then comes his darker side which was created by his rival Ndlovu along with Nkabinde. Together they created an evil monster Mgijimi, who ultimately came back to life, to actually end Mpiyakhe’s life, for good.

Sdumo Mtshali who is also leaving the drama series to pursue other acting endeavors, shared the moment on his Instagram TV. Siyabonga was showered with gifts and a hail of nothing but good words and messages of well wishes were thrown at him.

Bomb production producers gifted him with a bouquet of red roses and a tailor made blazer on his final day on set. Producer Desiree Markgraaff said, “Eight years… Amazing and beautiful storytelling. What a character. Thank you for bringing so much dignity and depth, and so many beautiful scenes.”

She did acknowledge that it was not easy but they all had a common goal which was to make Isibaya a success it already was.

Siyabonga thanked both Desiree Markgraaff and Angus Gibson for entrusting him with this powerful role which he took to greater heights, “Thank you for trusting me with this role. It’s been a great journey. We’ve had some challenges, but it was nothing personal, we were both trying to fix it and make it better. So, thank you, I hope our paths cross again.”

Viewers were not pleased at all after learning that he has officially left the show, stating that they will not be watching the telenovela ever again. A statement nobody wants to hear at Isibaya at the moment looking at how they are skating on thin ice and on the verge of cancellation.According to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, sources informed him that if the soapie’s numbers do not improve, the channel might consider pulling the plug on it. This might be the reason why one of the first ever actors on the telenovela, Sdumo Mtsali, will be exiting the show.

“Word is, the @Mzansimagic show’s fate is in limbo. Sources tell me that the show is on the brink and barring any change in fortunes it will be cancelled. The show’s cancellation has been the murmur since early this year,” Phil tweeted.

Siyabonga Thwala currently stars in M-Nets Legacy as a wealthy businessman, Msizi Zulu, who is the CEO of Legacy Investments and L24 News.
