A man is in custody after allegedly stabbing his 16-month-old daughter to death during a domestic dispute near Swellendam, Western Cape police said on Friday.

The girl was murdered on the Bloemhof farm in Buffelsjagrivier around 15:30 on Thursday, according to Captain Malcolm Pojie.

“Whilst fighting with his partner over work on a farm in a neighbouring town (Witsand), the suspect grabbed hold of the child, took her outside the dwelling, where he fatally stabbed the child,” he said.

The girl, identified as Alime Mbasha, was cut and stabbed in the neck and chest. She died at the scene.

Pojie said the child’s 24-year-old mother had sustained minor injuries during the attack.The little girl’s father, 33, was arrested and detained at Swellendam police station.

He is expected to appear on charges of murder in the Swellendam Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Yolisa Matakata said she was appalled to hear about the child’s murder, and said justice must prevail.

South African musician and producer Chicco Twala recently instructed police to shoot his son in a new leaked video in addition to hurling a barrage of insults at him after allegedly handing him over to the police for stealing.

In the video posted by controversial Twitter parody account Man’s NOT Barry Roux, Twala’s son Longwe can be seen seated at the desk of a police officer while Twala’s voice can be heard ranting.

Text superimposed over the video states “voice of Chicco Twala at Diepkloof police station where he handed his son Longwe Twala to the police for stealing”.Twala opens the video by telling Longwe that he wishes it was him who killed Senzo Meyiwa so that he could rot in jail.

He then proceeds to swear at Longwe before telling him that his behaviour and actions have destroyed his (Chicco’s) name.

“Everyone when they see Chicco Twala, they see a criminal, they see a drug lord, they see all this sh**,” screams Twala.

“Put a bullet on him, if he runs away, shoot him,” added Twala in response to a female voice in the background who says that Longwe will run away.Twala then tells Longwe how he would rather bury him and that he would be better off dead than destroying his father’s name the way he currently is.

He concludes the clip by lambasting Longwe for wearing an EFF t-shirt while stealing and asks him if he was doing that because he wants Julius Malema to harass his father.

A 31-year-old woman was found murdered in open veld in a village outside Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape on Thursday, police said.

Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the woman was last seen by her parents on Wednesday evening.

She was discovered dead at about 9am on Thursday.

Manatha said she had injuries to her upper body.

The motive for the murder was not known.

No arrests have been made and a murder case has been opened

Police are appealing for information from the public to find the man who opened fire on a popular restaurant in Melville, Johannesburg, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Police in Gauteng are offering cash rewards for information that could lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the perpetrator or perpetrators responsible for two separate shootings in Johannesburg in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The search for the suspects is still under way after shots were fired indiscriminately at patrons just after 1.00am on New Year’s Day at Poppy’s Restaurant in Melville.

The incident claimed the lives of two women, while six other patrons were wounded and had to be hospitalised.

At Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, just after 2.30am on the same morning, 11 people – seven men and four women – sustained gunshot wounds after shots were fired at revellers from an elevated platform suspected at this stage to be the M2 double decker bridge.

“A cash reward is on offer to any individual who can give information on either one of the shooting incidents, on condition such information leads to the arrest and successful prosecution of the suspects,” said police.

Even trying to disguise a stolen orchestra instrument by painting it a different colour did not help: Police have traced and confiscated the expensive cello.

Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said an orchestra was performing at the University of Free State in September when, at about 9.30pm, they went for dinner while leaving their instruments ready for their next session. On their return, the professor realised that one of the instruments was missing, a 25-year-old cello which is worth about R60,000.

On Thursday, police received a tip that someone was trying to sell an instrument fitting the description of the missing cello.

The suspect is a music student at the university.

The student was allegedly asking R6,000 for the instrument on Facebook and there were already people showing interest from outside the country, said police.

The instrument had been painted in a different colour but still had the distinguishing marks provided by the owner. “The suspect was arrested as he couldn’t provide them with a convincing reason why it was in his possession.”

The 25-year-old student faces charges of theft and possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in court soon.
