With more than a decade in acting and memorable roles in Generations and The Queen, Zenande Mfenyana is grateful to still be at the forefront of storytelling.

Mfenyana will next slip into character as Nolwazi “Nono” Mathebula on the new action-packed drama, Mother of All, premiering tonight on e.tv’s eVod platform.

Mfenyana is billing the role as a total departure from the characters that have made her a household name.

“I was stunned when I was briefed on what playing Nono would entail,” said Mfenyana.

“One thing I can reveal is, I did all the stunts myself. I went through weeks of martial arts training to perfectly do justice to Nono’s storyline. As a fast learner, it was easy for me to adapt to the type of training required for this role and I really hope viewers love her.”

The crime drama is premised around a mother’s love that knows no bounds, whereas a daughter’s love does. The supporting cast includes Buyile Mdladla, Cabangile Gumede, Six Nyamane, Bridget Masinga and Thandeka Qwabe.

“We started shooting the show three days after I got the role. I had to fly my helper, daughter and myself to Durban to be on set,” she said.

“I had zero time to prepare but luckily being a trained artist, I just knew what I had to do when I immediately got on set since we were only given three months to finish shooting the first season.”

Two roles turned the 38-year-old actor into one of the most recognisable faces on local television – Noluntu Memela on Generations and Goodness Mabuza in The Queen. She’s also featured on high-profile productions which include Ashes to Ashes and 1802: Love Defies Time.

“People still remember Noluntu and Goodness… they actually still call me by these names to this day. I am truly grateful to still be a working actress in this tough industry,” she said.

“I am also grateful to the Fergusons. They played a bigger part in who I am as an actress. They have been following my career from the time I was shooting Generations many years ago. I remember Aus’ Connie coming on set and I’d watch her with admiration and I’d tell her, ‘One day, I’m going to work with you’, and I did. Acting on The Queen was such a wonderful time of my acting career.”

Nyamane joins Mfenyana in the show, playing Noks. The fresh-faced talent is known for her roles in Scandal!, Rhythm City and Blessers.

I Saw My Life Ending”- DJ Black Coffee

Back in January of this year, the talented South African music producer and DJ, Black Coffee, was involved in a serious travel accident while on a flight to his show in Mar Del Plata. The incident left him with some injuries, as he shared in a statement on his social media.

Black Coffee opened up about the accident for the first time during an interview on My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose. Recounting the terrifying moments, he shared, “I literally saw my life flashing; that was the most painful thing about the accident,” he told Tbose. “It wasn’t so quick, and I woke up in the hospital. It happened for like a minute, giving me time to think. I had time to pray while it was happening.”

The incident occurred during his tour of South America. Due to unforeseen circumstances, he had to change airlines for this specific trip. “It looked old, like no one had been using it. I felt uneasy,” Black Coffee explained.

Describing the moment of the accident, he said, “The plane was cruising, and I was listening to a gospel album. I reclined my seat, took a nap, and then I woke up to the plane shaking violently. I opened my eyes, and everyone was trying to hold on,” he recalls the horrific incident.

“It was moving so violently that I fell on the floor. There was a gospel song playing on my headphones, repeating Hallelujah. It felt like I had these angels singing to save me at that moment. I was on the floor, got up, and sat on the chair, trying to hold on. The plane just dipped so fast, and I hit the ceiling with my head, and I was unconscious for a couple of seconds. Shortly after, I was on the floor again, and it was simmering down. The plane inside was so destroyed—still flying—the oxygen masks were rolling.”

The pilot made an emergency landing in Uruguay, where Black Coffee underwent a 5-hour surgery to repair his upper spinal cord, which was damaged in the incident.

Showmax drops exciting Thabo Bester doccie trailer

Showmax have announced a gripping four-part series on the criminal spree of South Africa’s most brazen convict, Thabo Bester, and his reported girlfriend, Nandipha Magudumana.

The couple are currently awaiting their pre-trial in the Free State Court. Along with seven others, the duo are facing charges of assisting Bester’s prison escape, fraud, corruption, and violating multiple bodies.

SHOWMAX’S TRACKING THABO BESTER: ALL THE DETAILS
Tracking Thabo Bester will be screened in two parts on 15 March and 22 March on streaming service Showmax. The series was produced by IdeaCandy, who also helmed Devilsdorp and Rosemary’s Hitlist

The four-part true-crime documentary will document the shocking news that the convicted murderer and rapist did not burn to death in his Mangaung prison cell. Instead, he was seen shopping alongside Nandipha Magudumana at Woolworths in Sandton City.

According to Showmax, the first episode follows GroundUp journalists Marecia Damons and Daniel Steyn as they investigate an anonymous tip-off. The duo co-wrote the bestselling book The Thabo Bester Story: The Facebook Rapist, the Celebrity Doctor, and the Escape from Cell 35.

Subsequent episodes look at why Bester was called the Facebook rapist and in jail originally. It also explores how a celebrity doctor fell for a convicted criminal and left her children to go on the run with him to Tanzania. Finally, viewers will get a look at who really died in Cell 35.

The documentary will see interviews by prisoners and prison warders at Mangaung Correctional Centre; the family of Katlego Bereng Mpholo, whose body was found in Cell 35; Nandipha’s brother Nkosinathi Sekeleni, and former South African Police Service head profiler Dr GĂ©rard Labuschagne, who interviewed Bester after his 2012 arrest for rape and murder.

The documentary also shows the media’s and social media’s reactions to the story.

Director Nikki Comninos said: “We tend to discuss Thabo Bester like it’s an isolated case, but it’s clearly not.

“Bester has been depicted as some kind of anomaly for being able to run a business while incarcerated, but so did Dawie de Villiers – also a convicted rapist who lured his victims online – at a completely different prison. This raises questions about what is happening with the South African prison system.”
