Nompilo Dlamini, a 28-year-old social media user and former Swati educator who had been fighting cystic fibrosis, sadly passed away. Her family announced her peaceful passing in her sleep on her Instagram account on October 31.Dlamini had been battling the chronic illness, which affected her lung function and required her to use an assistive breathing device daily. Her condition had forced her to leave her job as a schoolteacher in 2021.
South African rapper Cassper Nyovest made headlines in 2021 when he donated R150k to support Dlamini’s efforts to travel to India for a lung transplant. Now people were starting to blame him citing that he should have kept donating money to her so she would not run out of her medication since she could not afford it on her own.
Dlamini’s passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences and tributes from the South African community. Businessman BI Phakathi and many others celebrated her resilience and the inspiration she provided to others. Cystic fibrosis is a challenging condition, and Nompilo Dlamini’s advocacy efforts touched the hearts of many.
