Gemma, a viral young music prodigy has mesmerised social media with her soothing voice. Not only is her voice making headlines but it also seems like there is more to her second name ‘Fassie’.

Many social media users got introduced to the fast-rising star through her active Twitter page where she mimics the late Brenda Fassie’s musical acts.

After Bongani Fassie, son of the late Brenda posted a video of the singing youngster on his Twitter page, curious netizens have been asking almost similar questions if the star was indeed related to the late Brenda Fassie.

It seems like her out-of-this-world vocals and her physical resemblance to Brenda Fassie were enough to convince Twitter users that Gemma was a reincarnated MaBrr.

 

 

 

As a matter of fact, Gemma Fassie is the late music icon’s niece. She is a singer-songwriter born and raised in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. Her father and Brenda Fassie are siblings.

Speaking to Sportscene about her aunt, Gemma says that it only downed to her a few years ago that she was related to Brenda Fassie. She, however, did not get any opportunity to meet her as Brenda passed on when she was a toddler.

Gemma says that people who see and hear her singing always asked her questions about her relations to the late icon. This prompted her name change to Gemma Fassie so it could be her new ‘Sasha Fierce’ moment of living in her new persona as inspired by Brenda Fassie.

The 23-year-old released her first R&B EP project in 2020 and has since vowed to see her way up the South African music industry ladder with new projects.
