Bushiri has been granted 200 000 Rand bail and his wife has been granted 200 000 Rand bail, accused no2 has been granted 20 000 Rand and his co-accused has been granted 100 000 Rand bail each, in a case where they are accused of money laundering, theft and fraud involving102 million Rand.
The state had argued that the accused, Bushiri and his wife Mary Bushiri are a flight risk and their permanant residency was not in order, but the judge said that the case is still under investigation and home affairs is yet to dertemine fully if that permanant residency is legit or not, so while their still investigating, their permanant residency stands. This is why the judge has given them bail and another reason the judge has stated was that Bushiri and his wife are well known to the public and they run one of the biggest church in South Africa so they are not a flight risk.
It is very interesting that the state said that they are a flight risk, and one of the conditions given to them was that all travel documents or anything that could assist them to leave the country must be handed over to the investigating officer.
The main reason the magistrate granted the bail was that the state did not present a strong case or enough evidence as to what they were saying with regards to the issue that they are a flight risk. Surprisingly, they have been given bail previously and they have not violated any of those bail conditions. Anothe bail condition was that they must report to the nearest police stations every monday to friday between 6am to 6pm, they were also warned not to threaten any state witness and not to threaten any of the prosecutors.
The magistrate proceeded and said that because they have a church they must not speak about the details of the trial or the trial at church, she also spoke about the tittle deeds of their house, that they must hand over their tittle deeds as soon as possible by tomorrow at 5pm and they must hand it over to the NPA and if they break their bail condition they will forfeit their tittle deeds.
