Bonang Matheba has won her controversial case against Rea Kopane and took to Twitter to celebrate her win with her followers. The media mogul seemed pleased with the results and had a grave disclaimer for Rea.
The “House of BNG” founder has been engaged in a court battle with Rea Gopane since 2021 when the podcaster accused her of introducing Kieran Forbes also known as AKA, to drugs, specifically, cocaine. The outrageous accusation was met with legal action however that did NOT stop the vlogger from his constant barrage.
Bonang shared the news ofnher victory with a string of interlinking tweets, the first one reading, “I won…” followed quickly by the next one disclosing the amount she won, “R300 000!!!” The win is quite significant and Tweeps were helping her celebrate the win against a “troll”
The internet has made it easy to hide behind anonymity in order to say insanely defamatory things. This case should set legal precedents for other celebrities to go after those who want to slander them in the public eye. When you factor in that celebrities depend on their reputation to be intact for jobs and brand endorsements, careless statements cost them so much more.
Rea Gopane’s legal troubles don’t end there. The podcaster got into hot water with AmaPIANO artist, JazziQ. He accused JazziQ of “sacrificing” Killer Kau and Mpura for the sake of his own music career. A bizarre and deliberate statement that was made by the reckless vloggers.
Personal Thoughts
I love Bonang’s devil-may-care attitude about this entire thing. Her disclaimer about Rea being in debt for 30 years, is hilarious. It would be easy to feel bad for the man if he wasn’t so unapologetic about it his actions. The consequences are dire in life when you don’t tread carefully. South African men on podcasts seem like they’re looking for the shock factor. They want to have sensationalized content at the cost of being thoughtful interviewers/hosts and that is just a reflection of the cultural landscape in our nation.
May this case be a lesson to all those who think that they have the right to talk dirt on other people’s names without consequences.
