Ayanda Mandisa Bandla was born on June 28, 1989, in Johannesburg, where she grew up in the south-western townships. She has a passion for politics, media and social justice, which led her to pursue a degree in political science with a speciality in international relations from the University of Pretoria.


 

 

 

 

From One Day Leader to Sunrise
Ayanda’s television career began in 2011 when she participated in the SABC1 reality competition One Day Leader. The reality show aimed to identify and nurture young leaders who could tackle South Africa’s challenges. She was one of the six finalists who competed for the title of One Day Leader by presenting their views on various topics and engaging in debates with experts and public figures.Although she did not win the competition, she impressed the viewers and the judges with her eloquence, charisma and confidence. She was then offered a job as a news and actuality presenter for etv’s flagship breakfast show Sunrise, where she worked for two years. She also hosted other shows on etv, such as The Morning Show and The Fixer.

Ayanda Bandla: A Rising Star in the Acting World
Ayanda’s talent and versatility did not go unnoticed by the acting industry. She made her debut as an actress in 2016 when she joined the cast of Generations: The Legacy, one of the most popular soap operas in South Africa. She played the role of Dr. Tumelo Mokoena, a young and ambitious doctor with a complicated relationship with her father.

Ayanda then appeared in other South African series, such as Obsessions, Broken Vows, It’s Complicated and Vutha. In Obsessions, she played the role of Naledi, a successful lawyer who dealt with her troubled past and abusive husband.Ayanda then joined Broken Vows, playing a presenter for the Lifetime reality show that followed the lives of four women who ran a wedding planning company. She starred in It’s Complicated, where she guest-starred as Lerato Motha, a woman who had an affair with a married man. Ayanda then joined Vutha and played the role of Dr Anelisa Moabe, a medical doctor who worked in a hospital that dealt with infectious diseases. In 2023, she joined Smoke & Mirrors as Thandiswa, determined to dismantle a morally corrupt trio running Emnyameni.

Personal Life
Ayanda is involved in various social causes, such as education, women empowerment and health awareness. She is an ambassador for the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Thembekile Mandela Foundation.
