Emtee Opens Up About Painful Apartheid Experience. Apparently he has experience apartheid

In a candid and heartfelt interview, acclaimed South African musician Emtee recently shared a personal and poignant story from his past, shedding light on a painful experience he endured during the apartheid era. The interview provided a glimpse into the artist’s resilience and his ability to rise above adversity. Emtee, known for his musical talents and lyrical prowess, revealed that his grandmother had been employed as a domestic worker during apartheid, working in the homes of white families.

At the time, Emtee did not speak English fluently, making him a target for ridicule and gossip among the children he encountered while visiting his grandmother’s workplace. “I had a taste of apartheid,” Emtee began, his voice tinged with emotion. “My grandmother was working in the suburbs, and I didn’t know English. But, I could tell things kids were gossiping about me.”

Despite the language barrier and the discomfort of being talked about behind his back, Emtee maintained a remarkable sense of self-composure, choosing not to retaliate or engage in negativity. “I am cool and let it slide,” Emtee continued, reflecting on his ability to rise above the taunts and whispered comments. “While playing, they climbed on top of me, I got two white kids sitting on me.”

The interview, which touched upon the painful memories of apartheid, also showcased Emtee’s capacity to find strength and resilience in the face of adversity. His ability to remain composed and rise above prejudice serves as a testament to his character and determination to overcome the challenges of his past. It is worth noting that apartheid, a system of institutionalized racial segregation and discrimination, left deep scars on South Africa and its people. Emtee’s story serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of this dark chapter in the nation’s history, while also highlighting the resilience and grace with which individuals like him have navigated its challenges.

Emtee’s interviewer, although sharing in the emotions of the moment, responded without laughter, possibly as a sign of no admiration for the artist’s ability to share a painful memory with a sense of poise and maturity. As Emtee continues to make his mark in the music industry and share his experiences with the world, his story remains a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the capacity to overcome even the most challenging circumstances.
