It’s been almost a year to the day since Ruda Landman and Derek Watts “clicked” on the set on the TV actuality programme Carte Blanche 35 years ago.

While Ruda left the show two decades later, she maintained a firm friendship and close bond with her co-anchor, who tragically died this week.

On Tuesday, 22 August, Derek lost his battle with skin and lung cancer. He was 72 years old.

 

RUDA LANDMAN PAYS TRIBUTE TO DEREK WATTS
A day after his death, Derek Watts’s “TV wife,” Ruda Landman, spoke out about their close relationship.

Ruda met Derek Watts for the first time on the set of Carte Blanche in 1988. The dynamic duo – who were household names and faces on South African television – became firm friends.

While Ruda left the show in 2007 to pursue other ventures, she kept in contact with her professional partner.

She told Hot 102.7 FM after his passing: “I can’t believe it. He was in my life for half of it – more than 35 years”.

Springboks star winger Cheslin Kolbe showed off his wife and children.

The talented winger is one of the key players in the Springboks, and fans love him.

 
He was part of the 2019 World Cup-winning team and had the critical experience.

When it seemed obvious he would make it into the World Cup squad, Kolbe celebrated it like never before.He shared pictures with his family as they had one of their last meals together before he left.

With so much joy, Cheslin took a selfie picture while having dinner with his family.

Even though the pictures he took while having Nandos with his wife and kids, Cheslin shared more.

He shared the last picture as he hit the road, all putting on the Springboks jersey.

He spoke at large of how much the family is growing and how much they support him.

“4 years ago we were 3.Today we stand as 5, even more reason I have the incredible honour and privilege to represent my country at the World Cup. For His Glory and 🇿🇦🙏🏼 Thank you for all the amazing support.” he said.

After Cheslin Kolbe shared pictures of his family, wife and children, fans loved it.

“Go get it 🙏🏽 we are so proud of you!”

Pixie Curtis might only be 12 years old, but she’s a multi-millionaire and, believe it or not, retired. Will you allow your pre-teen to fork out more than R4 million (£170k) for a new car?

And while she is not “working” anymore, one of her big dreams has always been to own a Range Rover. And that dream has recently come true, even though she will have to wait until 18 to drive it.

As per her images on Instagram, she finally got her wish and bought a matte-black Evoque First Edition with cream leather interior. According to the publication, she bought her new car after selling her R3.4 million (£143k) Mercedes Benz GI.

LIVING IN THE LAP OF LUXURY
And while the family has recently relocated to Singapore because of Pixie’s father, Oliver Curtis’ work, Pixie is still living her life to the fullest. With no expense spared, of course. Pixie’s mother is the PR mogul Roxy Jacenko.

Although retired, the pre-teen keeps her fans updated on her new life and regularly shares photos of the many designer stores she likes to visit and the family’s luxurious new home.

The family’s lavish new digs have a tennis court, state-of-the-art gym, and outdoor swimming pool.

Although Pixie, in one of her posts, joked that she wouldn’t mind an air-conditioned tennis court.

This year Nyovest took to his popular Twitter page and revealed that Solomon was the name of his latest album.The Mama I Made It hitmaker will be touring Africa with rapper Nasty C. The duo shared that they will be visiting 16 African countries including Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Angola, Uganda, Nigeria, Kenya, and more on their African Throne tour.

According to Briefly, Nyovest is one of the highest-paid South African musicians in 2023 with a staggering booking fee of R207 000 at just 32 years old.Meanwhile, Nasty C’s booking fee is reportedly a little under Cassper Nyovest’s. The SMA hitmaker reportedly charges R100 000. And he too is releasing his album this year. In fact, he has dropped a few singles already such as Crazy Crazy, Better Than This, No More, and Blackout.

The 26-year-old rapper also recently announced that his long-term girlfriend Ntombizodwa Beatrice Sibanyoni aka Sammie Heavens is pregnant with their first child. He shared the news during a freestyle rap in London when he made his appearance on Charlie Sloth’s Fire in The Booth radio slot.

Carte Blanche presenter and investigative journalist Derek Watts was a larger-than-life figure, loved by South Africans.

He was also a loving husband and father to his supportive wife Belinda and children Kirsty and Tyrone.
 

 

 

DEREK WATTS FAMILY LIFE
While Derek Watts was a recognisable face to many South Africans, he was just “dad” to his two children Tyrone and Kirsty, whom he shared with his wife Belinda.

In an interview with Sunday Times, Derek shared how he had met Belinda in the pet food aisle of a local Pick n Pay store in Benmore. Belinda was picking up supplies for her cat, while Derek was tending to a stray dog he had taken in.

The couple have been married for close to 35 years.

Derek also revealed how his family had rallied together to support his then-teenage daughter, who had survived a brain tumour.

He said: “Perfect happiness is a healthy family. We went through a tough time with Kirstin, who had a brain tumour and went through chemo, but she’s doing great, and now she’s a typical teenager”.

‘TV WIFE’ SPEAKS OUT
Meanwhile, Derk Watts’s “TV wife” Ruda Landman has spoken out after his passing. The duo were co-presenters of Carte Blanche from 1988 until she left the sow in 2007.

She told Hot 102.7 FM: “I can’t believe it. He was in my life for half of it – more than 35 years”.

“I was always completely relaxed when he was sitting next to me, he was so prepared, so ready for everything”.

Ruda claimed that she last Derek 2 weeks ago.
