Anthony Hamilton calls South Africa his “second home”

AWARD-WINNING American singer Anthony Hamilton is in Mzansi to celebrate his 20th album anniversary with the core of his supporters for an Up Close & Personal night.

The singer and songwriter has 18 Grammys under his name and sold more than 50 million records worldwide.

 

 

 
He said he feels at home in Mzansi, where he has been welcomed with open arms since his first visit in 2003.

Hamilton, given the South African name Mzwandile by his fans, spoke to Daily Sun in an exclusive interview at Sandton, Joburg, before his performance at the Sun Arena on Saturday, 23 September and next Sunday. He shared his journey of music, love, faith and how he has overcome challenges in the music industry with his authentic and soulful voice.

“You can never get used to a lot of love. It’s needed and appreciated. It means a lot to be loved by South Africans. It’s my seventh time here, and I feel like it’s home. Outside of the United States, South Africa is my next favourite. I want to bring my children here so that they can experience it,” he said. that they had to nominate me. I shared my life through my music. When you can relate to something, it has a bigger impact. It’s easier to sing about who I am and what I have lived,” he said.

Hamilton also opened about his personal life and how he used his music to heal and express his emotions.

He said one of his most special songs is Her Heart, which he wrote as an apology to his ex-wife after their divorce.

“Life has a way of humbling you down. That song is my apology to my ex-wife. That song is special,” he said.

Hamilton said he loves the food and shopping in Mzansi, and has made some lasting friendships here.

He said he looked forward to performing for his loyal fans, who have supported him throughout his career.

“I’m excited to share this night with them. It’s going to be intimate and personal. I’m going to sing some of my classics and some new songs. It’s going to be a night to remember,” he said.

SINGER Mlamli David Sellem is in need of help

According to his close friends, the singer, born at KwaLanga in Cape Town, has been sick for a while and is in desperate need of essentials.

They said they are also struggling to find his family.

 
A close friend and member of the Cultural & Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (Ccifsa) in Gauteng, Thembinkosi Khumalo said: “He is sick from a stroke and brain tumour. He’s been sick for a while and has already lost his ability to speak. “He is currently in hospital fighting for his life. We are currently trying to locate his family and it’s proving to be difficult. But for now we are pleading with Good Samaritans and his fellow colleagues in the industry to assist so he can get help. Any kind of help will be appreciated.”

Mlamli started singing at an early age and joined the music industry in the 80s, having been inspired by the late Brenda Fassie. He left Cape Town for Joburg to seek fame and fortune and joined Brenda in 1987 as a backup singer and dancer.

He was later signed by Sounds of Soweto and in 1990, he released his debut album titled Who Cares. This album was followed by many other albums and hits including Mangoane, Sis Mandlovu, Pizza Yamadoda and Amamenemene. Mlamli also worked with Slam Factory, Mshoza, Chicco and others on stage and in studio. He also worked with many producers and labels including Arthur Mafokate and 999 Music, as well as Phil Hollis. He performed Brenda’s hits at many shows.

“When we help others, we are not only improving their lives, but also improving our own lives. Studies have shown that when we do good for other people, it releases endorphins in the brain that make us feel good about ourselves and increase our overall happiness. So, not only do we help the people around us, but we also benefit from it too,” said Thembinkosi.

Another singer, Ivory “Qwathikazi” Sikepe, said: “I know Mlamli and I can confirm he is not well. I also visited him in hospital and it’s not looking good. Right now he needs all the support he can get from us as his colleagues.”

“Being in a pageant is not easy as you have to put in a lot of work, raise money for charities, get votes and sponsorships and always look good. You also have to be a gender-based violence activist,” she said.

Kelebogile, who is based in Centurion, Tshwane, said pageants are not about beauty, but are about change, the impact you have in the community as well as have confidence and dedication.

She described herself as a passionate and hard-working woman who believes in herself and in her abilities.

“I’m not afraid to take on challenges. I’m a go-getter and believe in making a positive impact in people’s lives,” she said.

The mother of two said when balancing modelling and writing a book, writing a book comes with inspiration, while pageants work according to a calendar”I love both of my gifts because they take out different sides of me. As a writer, I’m in touch with my creative side and I understand myself better from different angles,” said Kelebogile.

In 2021, she published the book, Had I Known, which tackles issues of gender-based violence.

Famous Mzansi media personality, Minnie Dlamini’s ex-husband, Quinton Jones celebrated his birthday last week, 12 September, and his close friend, the former YOTV presenter Sidwell ‘Psyfo’ Ngwenya has taken to his Instagram feed recently and given social media users a peek inside Jones’ intimate birthday party.

Last week, Psyfo announced that Quinton Jones had finally entered into the “fourth floor” on his birthday this year. “Happy birthday to a friend for life! Literally a day 1 (since standard 6 or grade 8 for nina [some of you] ),” he penned on his feed.
