Anatii celebrated after penning a Grammy award winning song ‘Brown Skin Girl’ for Beyonce

AnatiiThe biggest night in music took place on Sunday, March 14 and saw a few of our African artists walking away with accolades. Topping the trends list was our very own Anatii who got a stellar recognition for his contribution on the award winning song Brown Skin Girl, which he co-wrote for Beyoncé.

Hosting the event for the first time was comedian Trevor Noah who nailed it. He too was celebrated. The award-winning song is performed by Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, SAINt JHN, & Nigeria’s very own, WizKiD. This gave WizKid his very first Grammy win. However, Anatii was part of the writing team but the song won an award for best music video which does not make him a recipient of the award.

Apart from that, he still gets recognised for his amazing contribution to the song, making it the hit that it is today. Mzansi saw this as an opportunity to celebrate the musician, here are the few shout outs from tweeps:

Cassper Nyovest: “Congrats to Trevor Noah, Anatii, Wizkid and Burna Boy. AFRICAN SOIL!!!”

Lasizwe: “Africa our time is now!!! We at the Grammys Baby!!! Anatii, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Trevor Noah and Wizkid. Congratulations, I’m so proud to be African right now! Africa STAND UP!!!”Major League DJz: “Congrats @ANATII on his Grammy award … BROWN SKIN GIRl”
“Anatii won a Grammy guys!!! Umfana wase King Williams Town , Eastern Cape if that doesn’t inspire you I don’t know!”

Even though the rapper did not walk away with a Grammy for the song, he did win his very first Soul Train Award in 2019 for the prestigious Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award.

His previous achievement this year alone was being featured as one of the few Mzansi artists in the highly anticipated Coming 2 America sequel. The album was curated by Def Jam Africa and it is called ‘Rhythms of Zamunda: Music Inspired By Coming 2 America’ album.

Making it on the album is Nasty C for his hit song Black And White featuring Ari Lennox, Prince Kaybee for Fetch Your Life featuring Msaki, Gemini Major and Anatii for their song Loke Loke, Njelic and De Mthuda for their hit collaboration Shesha and Tellaman featuring Sha Sha for Overdue. Making up the 16-track album are also other African artists from the likes of Larry Gaaga, Tekno, Diamond Platnumz and Tiwa Savage, just to name a few.
