Last week, the 53-year-old police captain as well as his girlfriend, Nonhlanhla Ngubo (42) and David Khoza (40) appeared at the Magatle Magistrates Court in Zebediela, Limpopo, on Monday for their bail applications.

During proceedings, the court heard that Manku allegedly confessed to ordering a hit on his mother-in-law, Maphuthuma.

According to the investigation officer in the case, Manku confessed that he found people to kill Maphuthuma and drove with them to show them where she lived.

“He then pointed to his mother-in-law’s house, and they returned to Gauteng. The hitmen came back on their own as he had given them instructions to kill his mother-in-law,” the investigator said. When “the job was done”, the hitmen called Manku to let him know that they had killed two people instead of one.

“He told them that one of the women was his wife. They said she ran away from the place, and they thought she might tell the community and they would be caught,” she continued.

Manku also reportedly made payments to the hitmen.
