A star-studded spectacle: National Film & TV Awards South Africa

The stars aligned in Pretoria on 21 October as the National Film & TV Awards South Africa unfolded in a glittering spectacle. This annual event, produced by the National Film Academy, made its debut in South Africa with a mission to celebrate and promote the country’s vibrant film and television industry.The evening was nothing short of a star-studded extravaganza, blending elegance with entertainment.


 
The National Film & TV Awards Opera Theatre red carpet witnessed the who’s who of South Africa’s entertainment world. Celebrities and icons walked the carpet exuding charisma and glamour.

The night was a masterclass in style and sophistication, where elegance met entertainment most spectacularly.The hosts, Jordan and Cedii, were a hit with the audience, their comedic chemistry leaving everyone in stitches. Laughter was the theme of the evening, setting the tone for a night of fun and festivities.

NATIONAL FILM & TV AWARDS: THE ENTERTAINMENT
The entertainment on stage was equally dazzling. Lusanda, Okashi, and the University of Pretoria took the audience on a musical journey, showcasing their melodic talents.The show’s grand finale was presented by Ovuwa, an African dance troupe, who left the audience spellbound with their mesmerizing dance performance and a heartwarming rendition of the South African national anthem.

BEST OF MZANSI TALENT
The awards ceremony honoured the exceptional talents that graced South African screens and brought stories to life. Connie Ferguson, who picked up three awards, expressed gratitude for the recognition. She looked forward to celebrating many more years with the NFTA in South Africa.

The winners of the 2023 NFTA included luminaries such as Candice Modiselle, Nay Maps, Rosemary Zimu, Zikhona Sodlaka, Wiseman Mncube, Niza Jay, Frances Sholto-Douglas, and many more.These talented individuals and productions were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the South African film and TV industry.

The day after the awards ceremony, the NFTA South Africa team partnered with one of their sponsors to visit two children’s orphanages, spreading inspiration and motivation to pursue passions in drama and acting.
