South African actress Lesego Marakalla was born on May 16, 1993. From 2011 until 2020, she played Rachel Kunutu on the popular Sabc1 soap opera Skeem Saam.
At the start of the show, Lesego was a student at Turfloof High School, dealing with the trials of adolescence alongside the likes of Clement Maosa (as Zamokuhle “Kwaito” Seakamela), Cornet Mamabolo (as Thabo “Tbose” Maputla), and Patrick Seleka (as Katlego).
With her portrayal of Rachel Kunutu, she was nominated for best actress at the 2020 DSTV viewer’s choice awards, making her one of the most talked-about figures in South Africa’s entertainment business.
Due to her terrible behavior as a child, Rachel’s mother had a hard time relaxing and sleeping, and she eventually married Rachel’s stepfather, Marothi Maphuthuma, who was much older than she was.
Lesego departed the soap opera in 2020 to focus on her education. She has not said if she plans to reprise her role on the soap opera.
Since Rachel’s character was not killed off, she could potentially return. Rachel initially left to pursue medical studies in Cuba.
Lesego has been keeping a low profile ever since she disappeared from Skeem Saam. Her Instagram account is one of the only places where she does not overshare images, and her other social media accounts are similarly closed off.
It’s no secret that she wants to take a vacation from the spotlight in order to devote herself to her studies; she even declared as much when she quit the Sabc1 soap opera Skeem Saam two years ago.
Lesego was perfect as Rachel; the character was entertaining even if she was constantly getting into mischief.
