The live audio broadcast of the witness who requested for a blackout during her testimony in court, in the murder trial of the late Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, live audio broadcast will be allowed.
However, the presiding Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela ruled that her her image may not be shown – this is in line with rules for the media on all previous witnesses. The witness applied to have all live broadcasts banned, saying she feared for her life, since she is a media personality, and she performs in public from time to time.
“The court makes the following order. One, that live broadcast of the image of the witness, that is witness number 1, will not be permitted. Two, that members of the electronic media are permitted to live broadcast the testimony of witness number 1 by means of audio”. The Judge ruled.
“I might just add that the prohibition of images of witness number 1 while she testifies shall remain in place until the finalization of this case”. Maumela added.
Earlier this week, witness number 1, who is suspected to be Zandie Khumalo, made a last minute application that her testimony should not be broadcasted, this cause a delay in the murder trial, and the trial was postponed to Wednesday.
The witness who is about to take the witnesss stand, is one the eye witnesses who was present when Senzo was shot dead in Vooslorus, on the 26 October 2014, seven witnesses were present during the incident, they alleged the it was a robbery gone wrong.
