In a recent development at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court, the case against Thabo Bester and Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, known as Mzansi’s ride-or-die duo, was postponed. The couple appeared virtually in court, with Bester joining via audio-visual remand (AVR) from the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Facility in Pretoria, where he is currently detained. Bester’s virtual presence was due to security concerns that were raised.
The defendants, including Magudumana, are facing several charges, including fraud, corruption, abuse of a body, harboring and hiding an escaped criminal, and subverting the course of law. In a surprising turn of events, Magudumana, who is Bester’s lover, decided to provisionally renounce her bail request on Monday, citing fresh evidence.
Last month, Magudumana, Bester, and a Mozambican citizen were apprehended in Arusha, Tanzania, after fleeing the country upon learning of Bester’s prison break. Magudumana appeared virtually in court, but her demeanor drew criticism as she was seen laughing during the proceedings. This behavior caused public outrage, with notable personality Thando Thabethe expressing her discontent and questioning the reason for Magudumana’s laughter.
